Both engine pics come through clean for me...signature pic always bombs when i put a pic in the post. Oh well, you get the idea. I got NO time on the car this weekend, damn it! Luckily, all the reassembly can be done under the flourescents in the garage until the wee hours if need be. Did you get yours aligned?

Ya man! I'm on Bixby and Orange in Bixby Knolls. Yes, I will definitely have the car at Knott's. Are you going to join us for the pre-show cruise?

just curious... are you restoring the car to stock or putting some mods on the engine? i have some pointers about how the engine should be painted if you're going back stock.

i dont think it was such a good idea to paint the inside part where the water pump attaches to the timing cover. if the paint comes off, it'll be in your cooling system and possibly clog it up somewhere down the road.

Mostly correct stock. I purchased all concours stuff as far as hoses, clamps, belts, etc.. I have chosen aftermarket induction, as well as a Milodon aluminum waterpump that I will leave naturally colored. It has a backing plate, so I think I will be OK as far as paint in the water. Perhaps a Gano filter might be a good idea after all.

What would you suggest I change or do differently to stay closer to stock with regard to the paint?

well, since you are leaving the waterpump and intake a natural color then I suppose it's not going to be anything concours.

only thing 'extra' that you could do is maybe paint the thermostat housing blue. and maybe you could sorta replicate a shelby style intake installation and paint the intake bolt heads blue.

you should get the manifolds blasted and coated with hi-temp paint

What kind of paint did you use on the engine bay? Rattle can or Spray gun? Primer? I am working on mine and I have gotten several different opinions on ways to do this. Yours looks really good. I would appreciate any help you could give.

Hi Josh,

I took most of the engine bay and radiator support to bare metal. I then shot it with Krylon sandable primer (rattle cans). I gave it a few days to harden up, and then sanded smooth the rough spots with some 220 grit. vacuumed the hell out of everything, wiped it down witrh some tack cloth and shot several coates of Krylon semi gloss black. I should have given that paint about a month to harden, but I am trying to get the car ready for the Knott's show. Consequently, I scratched it up a little putting in the M/C bar, so I will have to touch it up a bit. Otherwise, that's it. This wasn't intended to be a full on restoration, but rather a freshening up of the engine compartment for casual cruises, etc. I think that when I'm done, it will be something in the middle. Best of luck.

Shannon
