Only two more days and many of us are off to Mini-Nats at
Sears Point Raceway! Just to wet out whistles more, I got this last night from the Nor-Cal Shelby mailing list.

Wish all VMF'ers could attend, this event is always a blast.

(some editing done on my part)

You're probably wondering what is on the agenda for
the Friday Night program at Mini-Nats XX??

Tony Stoer, one of the original Dragonsnake drivers
for Shelby American, will get the evening off the
starting line with a short talk about drag racing
a Cobra. We hope to have some photos to show as well.
This is just the opening act -- the main program will
blow your doors off!

We have put together a Question & Answer panel by
inviting back some past Mini-Nats guests. Rather than
listen to prepared speaches, this will be an open forum
for you to ask that question you could never get answered
by reading Shelby books. Please come prepared to ask
whatever you want (we trust you will keep it respectful).

- Chuck Cantwell: GT350 project engr and Trans-Am team mgr
- Rick Kopec: President and co-founder of SAAC
- Bernie Kretzschmar: Trans-Am Coupe fabricator/crew
- Jerry Schwarz: GT350 R-model & Trans-Am Coupe fabricator/crew
- [censored] Smith: 1967 SCCA A-Production National Champ in a 427 Cobra
- Tony Stoer: Shelby American factory Dragonsnake driver

AANNNDDDD...........Carroll Shelby!!

DISCLAIMER: Carroll has stated his intent to be our guest
for Mini-Nats XX, however this is always subject to change
due to his health. We have been keeping this under wraps
because we didn't want to get everyone's hopes up until it
was appropriate.

ps - We're hoping to have Carroll Shelby at the track and through the Sat night banquet, but no guarantees.

PLEASE don't ask if he will have an autograph session. We've left this as Carroll's decision. *IF* he wants to do it we'll announce as soon as he tells us to.

I'd love to ask Kopec a question or two - like why does he have to be such an, er, I better be quiet now...

Here's some more info. I was emailed on the drag racing event as well.

As we get closer to MiniNats XX it's time to fine-tune the special drag exhibition that will take place on Sunday, August 31, from 1:00 - 5:00 PM at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, CA. As you know, from 1:00 to 1:30 we will present a special drag exhibition featuring Shelby/Ford cars that helped shape the Shelby legacy. It is our desire to recreate the thrilling days of yesterday by showing off some significant cars. From 1:30 there will be open drag racing and we hope to have over 75 participants..

Attached please find a list of the cars that have been invited and most have accepted our invitation to participate in the exhibition. By Showtime I'm sure some of these cars will have dropped off and others will have been added, but I wanted to give you an idea of who's coming.

To give you an idea of what to expect there will be some cars that will race full-out down the strip in record time. Other cars will only do burnouts due to original tires. It will be up to the driver of each cars to determine what he wants to do. All we want to do is to recreate a "sense" of what it used to be like. Plenty of photos will be taken by all in attendance.

This is the first time we have done drag racing in over 15 years and we have never had a special drag exhibition. So, we're learning as fast as we can, but we need your assistance in making this event a big success. I hope to make this an annual event.
