I know the headliner from a 65/66 coupe fits a 67/68. Does that mean the Scott Drake overhead console will fit ok in a 66?
Thanks!

I don't think the attaching points are there but I could be wrong. I wondered the same thing at one point, but I'm a bit of a purist with my current cars. I think a custom overhead console would be neat in a tastefully modified car.

The key points you want to know:
1) There are coupe roof consoles, and there are fastback roof consoles. It is the curve and the length that make the difference.
2) If the car did not have a factory roof console, the factory would not install the front and rear mounting plates. You will need to find them. And, you do need to pull down the headliner to install the plates.

Comment: this upgrade sounds like a cool idea. For whatever reason, the wire to the map lights comes up from the back right. Well, thats on the 67's/68's.

OK. so how about he buys a Fomoco roof console at a swap meet. The aluminum trimmed ones are from a 67, the wood grained ones are from a 68.

Thanks for the info on attaching brackets and the need to remove windshield.

Never had one of these headliners out.

I still think a custom console would be super cool and could attach to a thin plate right under the rear view mirror bracket and then to the center support in the roof. If it was trimmed carefully, you might not even hafta take down a good headliner.

As I understand it, Scott Drake no longer owns Scott Drake. He sold out and that's the problem.

However, I did a complete resto on my '70 Mach 1 and used a lot of Scott Drake parts. Yeah, some of them are pretty sketchy, but most of the parts were pretty nice. And often there's no other choice. Sure, just try to find factory Mustang interior pieces that look good. If you do find them, you're going to pass out from sticker shock.

The "Auto Resto Mod" guys installed an overhead console in a car that didn't have one from the factory. Should be easy to find the video take a look to see how it installs.

I was going to suggest looking into the MTF headliner as well. You also gain about 1" in headroom and it is made from a single piece of ABS plastic. I think it's ideal for a restomod or vehicle with taller seats. On another note, I had a 68 coupe that came with a factory overhead console. The overhead lights are a nice feature, but it would be great if someone made an upgrade LED kit.

It actually gives 2 1/2” of extra headroom
