All other things equal, what is the effect of increasing spark energy on an engine? I am thinking of changing my Flamethrower coil to the recommended LX-92 coil for the Crane Hi-6 CD ignition. What is the net effect leaving all else equal (spark plug gap is .045, 8mm wires, MSD billet distributor, NGK V-power UR6 plugs on a 351C 4V quench)? I realize increase in power (if any) would be fairly undetectable but how about how the engine runs? Would it run smoother, improve starts and when running cold etc? What would the effect be on detonation - more chance of occuring or less etc?

My son has a claim to fame in the family as being the only one of his siblings with his face (albeit hidden) on the internet!! He loves the car by the way, it makes a lot of noise!

I installed a Jacobs ProStreet system on my modified 302. The distributor is a recurved stock vacuum advance unit with a Pertronix drop-in kit. The difference was noticeable. Smoother idle, and more torque. Actually the difference in torque was pretty apparent. Plus the oil stayed cleaner because the gas mixture was getting fully lit. Spark plugs stay absolutely clean. Gas mileage went up too. I run .055 plug gaps on Autolite 45s.
