Mustang Boss Aesthetics

Hello!
I'm completely new here and only made this account with the sole purpose of knowing what somehting is called.
There are some Boss 302 (don't know if the 429 shares the same thing) that have some sort of air intakes instead of the outer headlights, next to the other set of headlights on the grill, and I have always been intrigued of the name of such components, if they are in fact air intakes or something else. I find them unique and part of what makes the Boss 302 the real Boss.

Here's a photo to help with locating such special components.
Also, since I'm new, I don't really know if I'm posting this in the correct place of the forum.

Faux vents. Could potentially be used for break ducts to cool, but never really used that way on boss or factory cars….they are unique to 70 models only….

As stated, those faux air intakes were unique to the 1970 Mustang and were used on every 1970 Mustang, from the lowly 6 cylinder Hardtop to the mighty Boss 429 Sportsroof.

Welcome aboard. Ford sure liked to put faux intake/vents/scoops on our cars. I've got the Mach 1 hood scoop and rear brake coolers. I love them!

Those faux vents make the 1970 the best looking year mustang. Yes I like my 68... but those 70 fastback look mean af.

☝ I disagree with "the best looking year mustang". I like the 69 better. 😀

I have an ongoing feud with a good friend of mine. I say 69 is better, he says 70. As smart as he is, he’s never minded being wrong about this, lol.

Ultimately it’s subjective, but it’s been a fun way to mess with each other for years.

He won’t budge on the assertion that a 68 Charger is better looking than a 69 either. That’s just crazy talk to me.

68 Charger (drool) is classic (drool), but the grill is just a plain black box, which looks great with the car. The style of those early Chargers is pretty basic and beautiful, but there's not much curve and flair. That is totally opposite in the Mustangs, where you have curves and flair galore, even extra non-functional pieces just for the sake of art.

I read the following on Wikipedia. I couldn't find a citation for this hearsay:
"The 1970 model year Mustangs were restyled to be less aggressive and therefore returned to single headlamps which were moved to the inside of the grille opening with 'fins' on the outside of the grille sides. Some felt the aggressive styling of the 1969 model hurt its sales and this view prompted the headlamp revisions and simplification of other exterior styling aspects. It's worth noting though that 1969 model year sales exceeded those of 1970. "
