You "could" potentially put any engine in it.

Exactly. I even heard of some deranged pervert who created an abomination by putting in a Chevy engine.

I was just reading that old dug up thread earlier. It goes against nature.

Kinda like how high is up? Classic/vintage Mustangs went thru two significant changes. Original was 64 1/2-66. Designed for the small block 260/289 V8. The 351W and 351C (very carefully) could fit in without major mods. Obviously stroking doesn't alter the ouside dimensions of the engin.

The 67 model was widened to accept the big block 390. Again stroking the 390 won't affect the fit. 67-70 had the same basic dimensions.

The 71-73 was larger, a little wider than 67-70. The 429 was optional in the 71-73.

Now if you modify the front suspension including modifying or cutting out the shock/spring towers then it's a whole new ball game!

And you can stroke most if not all of those to multiple different displacements.

the 347 was probably a stroked 302, and the 383 was proabably a stroked 351

OP was asking about all the possible engines that can be put in a classic mustang. Personally I'm thinking about stroking my 351 to a 428 for giggles. How much power is your 408 giving you?

Sorry for thread highjacking.

Does asking someone to give you the answer count as research nowadays?
Goggle or Wiki Mustang engines. You'll get the same list 22GT gave you.
The way you phrased the question the answer really is you could put anything in it, from 2 stroke chainsaw to 6.7 cummins to jet turbine.

Okay let me rephrase,
it's not really a research project, but I need to do it for class, if I were to conduct a survey saying: Which engine does your classic Mustang currently have in it, and had to give a list of options no matter how many, which options should I go?

:0/.. You have to rephrase your question again.
By asking what engine your mustang currently has in it has an unlimited amount options.

And changing it,To what engine did it have at the time of manufacture?
The list that 22GT provided above covers the range from 64-73, But not every year had those cubic inch sizes available to be ordered installed.

Now that's a little more clear. Unfortunately the possibilities are still nearly unlimited. I would suggest, if rules allow, including an other or write in category, and also a no engine option.
