Mustang Woodie!

We were talking at lunch today and the subject of Mustang hybrids came up. I sort of remember this but howabout you?
This was a Mustang/wagon with the woodgrain application, custom wheels, built and detailed engine and a pair of surfboards on top that used to show up at some of the shows. It was supposed to be owned by the Monkees or some Rock Group of the time.
Anybody remember it, or better yet have a pic?

Seen a number of wagons but none with the fake wood.

Love the surf boards and rock group story though ;)

You may be thinking of the Monkeemobile which was a HIGHLY modified 67 GTO by George Barris. It was red and white, but I am not aware of any woodgrain on it. There have been Mustang station wagon conversions done over the years and even, believe it or not, a ranchero conversion or two. If you find pics of a "Mustang woodie" it sure would be neat to see em....

I always wondered if the blower was functional.

AH, the George Barris Customs. Remember the Munster Moble?

10 Strombergs on a 289.

Weren't Sonny & Cher given a couple of "His and Hers" coupes? I can barely remember a picture of them posing with them...but then, if you can remember the 60's you weren't really there.

I tried finding it but I couldn't, there was a 4WD jacked up suspension 69 based on an Explorer or something I once saw, be nice to get a picture of that one.

Jtt_indio,

Yes there were a couple of Mustangs that were custom done to Sonny & Chers taste. I remember seeing them at a place down in So. Ca. on display in their showroom. I believe it was Mustang Country? I saw them in the early 80's when my brother bought a 65 Mustang from them, and went to pick it up.

I went with him, and while he was signing the papers, I was checking out the S&C Mustangs. IIRC they both had leopard print interior, Gold paint, modified grilles and tail lamp panels and were both convertibles. I think they had the Sonny & Cher Initials or logo stitched into the upholstery as well.

Pretty Cool.
