Went for a lttle ride in the Coupe, stopped at a local wrecker to check on some parts. When I came out and tried to start it, it just went thud. I was on a hill, so i decided to bump start it, it just skidded the tires.
I had to call a tow truck and get towed the 2 miles home! I'm hoping the starter is just stuck on the flywheel. I had to go to work before I could check it out. I'm having visions of water filled cylinders locking
up the rotating assembly, I'm sure it's just the starter?

Never a good day when that happens. I still remeber the time my first mustang got towed home, I knew what the problem was though, I blew the crank out the bottom of the block!

Unfortunately, I've seen the hooks, also. The last time it happened. The hot wire from the electric choke came off, and grounded out against the intake. Obviously, the red/green wire coming off the ignition isn't fused. It melted the coating off the wire. The passenger area of the car filled with smoke.....not a fun experience. Now the car is over fused, anything that has power has a fuse.....

Just think how I felt when last year my SWMBO and I went out to eat and my 66 would not start afterwards. Had my son bring my tools over in his 84 Carmaro and he still won't let me forget it.

A bad day working on the stang is better than a good day at work!

I thought about having my teenage son tow me home with my truck and a tow strap. Then I came to my senses. A 20 foot tow strap and a rookie driver isn't a good combo...

The first Mustang I bought my wife won the coin toss to drive it home from the PO. We had test driven this car hard 4 times in total we even took it to a mechanic to check it out.

I followed in our other car the 30 miles home. We'd just got on the highway when BOOM... she manages to steer onto the shoulder, I pull up in front, pop the hood and saw that the top of the rad was completely ripped open, you could even see the fins inside the rad. The fan was bent into the block and antifreeze and water was everywhere!

We called the PO got him to call his tow truck company give us our check back (thankfully) and never looked back!

I found out afterwards from the PO when he called us to see if we were still interested that the head gasket was blown, causing exhaust gases to cook the water. Something else was wrong because it never showed any signs of overheating until it blew!

My poor wife crapped herself! Guess who got to drive our next Stang home!

Thanks

Shaun

I had a starter go out at the drag strip once. That bushing assembly in the end of the starter snout flew apart and a washer in it jammed the starter gear up against the flexplate. It bound up the motor like that.

Been towed many times, cheaper than an engine!

When in High School I took a girl I didn't know real well to the prom in my '66 coupe. When we left the prom to go to a party my head lights started blinking off and on, I pulled over and started checkin wires in my Tux. I was the headlight switch and there was nothing I could do about it at the time, so we drove to the party with flashing lights. Boy, was I embarrased.

Years later when I bought my '66 conv. I took my then future wife for a test drive after introducing her to Mustangs for the first time. Since none of the electical worked, except engine, we just went a short ways down the country road from my parents house. It ran out of gas about an 1/8 of a mile from the house. She pushed the Mustang so well and didn't bitch about it once, I had to marry her.

Just a trick in case this ever happens to you again or someone else.

If the starer jams like that it can usualy be unstuck by turning the engine backwards a bit. Next time stick it in reverse and feather the clutch out while rolling forward, (or a forward gear while rolling backwards). If it's just the drive that has jamed in the flywheel, this will usualy do it. Of course then you will have to roll start it in the normal manor.

PS, don't try this you chevy guys, it can walk the cam out the front of the engine and cause real damage. Not on a ford with a retainer plate though........ hehe, another good reason to pick fords, (like we needed ANOTHER reason............ *G*).

Good advice. I've never had this happen, but now I know what to do if it does.

And they say you can't teach an old dog new tricks...hehehe

Reminds me of last spring. Wife & I were at Myrtle Beach in my 66. We had went out to eat. And after I unlocked my wife's side & went to unlock my side. Stuck the key in & turned. The key broke off inside the lock! LUCKLY I gave the spare set of keys to my wife before we left for the beach. She dug in her pocketbook until she found them :)

Gotcha beat,
I was driving my 68 home one night from a family visit...and suddenly there is a loud slamming noise, To top it off a cop pulls me over. I was freaking.
Turned out the uv joint dropped out the rear and the drive train was slamming into the floor. Cop stopped me because the sparks flying was a worry.

Good news is, the cop's cousin was a auto shop owner who liked mustangs, so the tow was free, and he cut me a good deal on replacing both uv joints. That was the first tow.
