So...The Hoosier State (that's Indiana for all you coastal's) legalized sports gaming as of about 2 weeks ago.

I live within 20 minutes of one of the 10 casinos in Indiana, and having a free evening last night, I loaded up the wife and headed down there with a plan to make my first (legal) sporting wager...where I took the Indiana Hoosiers (and a ton of points) vs the evil Ohio State Buckeyes who will battle on the gridiron in the friendly confines of Memorial Stadium in Bloomington this Saturday hence.

So...I walked up to the Sports Book desk, which was completely empty other than the 3 attendants assigned to work the Wednesday evening shift. A very comely young lady explained what -114 meant to me. After a few minutes I was able to understand the concept of "The Vigorish", which is essentially a restating of the Second Law of Thermodynamics....and placed a wager, which should my Hoosiers show some backbone will result in my $114 bet becoming $214 by Saturday evening. Maybe.

At this point I turned and found my wife wandering back from the video poker machines where she had disappeared with $10 while I was doing calculus at the Sports Book. "Video Poker" the 25 cent opiate of the non-discriminating gambler. Pshaw. I say again, "Pshaw!"

"How'd you do?" I asked, heading for the exit.

"Hit 4 aces on my third hand, won $500", she replied.

"Oh"

Which only, again, proves the old adage. "It's better to be lucky than good."

But anyway, "Go Hoosier!" You don't have to win. Just don't get beat by 17.

I found a Quarter in a casino elevator and turned that into $14.00 with one pull of the slot machine handle. I immediately quit, as I had just won one of our seafood buffets, our only reason for being there.

This was Many years ago, that $14.00 buffet would probably be $30.00 now.

It wasn’t going to get any better!

Good luck! The sports book can be lots of fun especially when it's crowded for a big event.

Way back when. I used to go to vegas for the 1st 4 days of the NCAA Basketball tourny. Did that about 10 years before the group dwindled to zero that could get the weekend hall pass. Those were fun trips. Place lots of little bets in the morning then just hang out watch games, drink beer and eat unhealthy food.

In years past, if I would be in Vegas or Reno before football season started, I would put 10 bucks on the Bears winning the Super Bowl. I figured I had just as good of a chance of hitting that as turning that 10 bucks into more money in a slot machine. Haven't been back to Vegas in many years now. My mom could usually get a couple hundred out of a slot machine, but I don't have that luck.

Just don't make a habit of it, that's how it all starts... oh man, if this one thing works out, I can double my money... before you know it you've lost your house, sold your mustang, and have two broken legs in a wheel chair

I kid... good luck. I guess I should put a little money on Clemson for the Natty? But I don't think SC has joined in on the fun yet.
