My new Mustang 68 in Russia

4011 Views 66 Replies 33 Participants Last post by  Rlox88
Hello to all cowboys! My name is Stephan, I'm from Russia. Recently, at the Copart auction, I bought a Mustang 68, a coupe, with a 200 engine and brought it to Russia. A car from New York. There are only a few dozen mustangs of the 1st generation in Russia. There is a power steering, an automatic transmission. That's all). There are a couple of holes on the body. The engine starts and the car drives. I've already driven about 600 miles. The plans are to eliminate the problems of the mechanical part in a year and in a couple of years to do the bodywork.

Stephan - Welcome to VMF from LA (Lower Alabama)

Nice looking cars. My first car as a 16 year old was a hand me down from mom and dad, their 1970 Plymouth Fury Gran' Coupe, Paisley Vinyl Hardtop with matching Paisley interior. Much like this one. Love those big old boats.

Welcome from California! I’m currently working on my dad’s 67, which has a 200cid like yours. If all goes well, I should have it on the road sometime this weekend.

Welcome to the club. I spent a lot of time in Russia back in the early 90s. Mostly around St. Petersburg. Much fun. Enjoy!

Welcome!

Regarding custom duties, now that you have it, are you allowed to put in a V8 without additional taxes?

Phil
Yes, after registration in police i can put any V8. But i like this simple engine with great gas milage))) First, the technical condition, then the bodywork and painting, and only then, perhaps, the engine swap.😁
I went to the first festival yesterday.🤟🤟🤟

Thank for all!

Now Russia has changed a lot. We have quite a lot of vintage cars now. But they are prevented from bringing them by large customs duties. For example, for a Mustang 200 cid, the customs duty is about $ 23,000.😬😬😬😬🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

Thanks Chris about color👍
Heck! $23.000 in taxes.? WTF!

Wow.! That’s a real robbery.! It’s more than the car’s price, probably several times.!
Authorities wants to make easy money.!

I just noticed in your pictures that the car has 5 bolt hubs ans axles. Is the fifth digit of your vin a T? Real question I guess, was the work done in anticipation of a v8 swap or was a six placed in a previous v8 car? Not a critical issue as you have the stronger spindles ans axles regardless of how you decide to move.

Hi! No, I have 4 bolts in all wheels. Fifth digit is T. Its 100% original car without tuning work.

I have already bought spare parts on cjponyparts a couple of times. They deliver a parcel to Russia in a couple of weeks. The price of delivery of a parcel is approximately equal to the price of spare parts or more expensive.🤷‍♂️ Sometimes I order spare parts from rokavto. The classic car in Russia - very hard and expensive to make.

They allegedly care about the environment🤣🤣🤣, not letting old cars into the country.🤬🤬
