My new Mustang 68 in Russia

4005 Views 66 Replies 33 Participants Last post by  Rlox88
Hello to all cowboys! My name is Stephan, I'm from Russia. Recently, at the Copart auction, I bought a Mustang 68, a coupe, with a 200 engine and brought it to Russia. A car from New York. There are only a few dozen mustangs of the 1st generation in Russia. There is a power steering, an automatic transmission. That's all). There are a couple of holes on the body. The engine starts and the car drives. I've already driven about 600 miles. The plans are to eliminate the problems of the mechanical part in a year and in a couple of years to do the bodywork.

For some reason I keep thinking there is a "Soviet Russia" joke here.

Do they have those jokes in Russia Stephan?

Like this is an example of a "Soviet Russia" joke we tell in the U.S.

"In Soviet Russia, you rob bank. In America, bank robs you."

Anyway...awesome looking car there at the festival. That must have been a blast.

Yes, we often joke about the USSR with their lifelong leaders. We have the same situation again, apparently. 🤦‍♂️Elections don't solve much.

Yes, Festival was great👍🤟

- Welcome to VMF from LA (Lower Alabama)

Nice looking cars. My first car as a 16 year old was a hand me down from mom and dad, their 1970 Plymouth Fury Gran' Coupe, Paisley Vinyl Hardtop with matching Paisley interior. Much like this one. Love those big old boats.

John
John, thank you, Fury is very unusual car🤟🤟🤟

Welcome to the vmf!! You have very good taste in cars.

"In America, there's plenty of beer and you can always find a party. In Soviet Russia, Party always finds you."

...that's obviously a dated joke. We are very quickly going on a downhill slide.

What is the current perception of America in Russia if you don't mind me asking? Do you guys get your opinions from Hollywood? From international news?

The opinion of Russia in America is strongly divided. We have a group of people who made tons of money off of the Cold War that do not want to let go of the rivalry and push Russia as the bad guy responsible for everything.

But I think there are lots and lots and lots of Americans who want the relationship to be completely thawed. There's something very respectable about a Christian nation that refuses to bow down to terrorists. I wish we were still like that. Maybe we can be again someday.

I think the division over here is a pretty good thing because that means the perception is transitioning from a bad spot.

No problem, of course, I will tell you with pleasure. I have many friends who are friends with Americans. I myself correspond with several guys on cars. My opinion and the opinion of my friends - You are exactly the same people as we are. We have about the same mentality and civility. We are also unhappy that relations between America and Russia have been experiencing problems in recent years. But apparently, it is beneficial for our leaders. They say on TV that all our problems come from America. I'm sure they tell you the same thing about Russia.🤷‍♂️
I think there are pros and cons in any country. It seems to me that the laws still work in America. Unfortunately, our laws are subordinate to the ruling people. This is the main problem.😡

And yes-bears sometimes go out on the street in remote villages. But they never play the accordion.😁😁

"In America, there's plenty of beer and you can always find a party. In Soviet Russia, Party always finds you." 🤣🤣🤣🤣Not bad👍

Basic information from the Internet, youtube, communication with friends who have relatives or friends in America. Our TV is propaganda-I don't watch it. Your Hollywood sometimes makes a good movie. Clint Eastwood-he became a great filmmaker, for example. All his films are 100% good.👍👍And I think his films are the most truthful.

One of our largest self-inflicted problems is that our CIA does not have any real international pressure to keep it in check. Keep in mind that NONE OF US EVER VOTED FOR THE CIA They do whatever they want and expect no one to ever question them. When Russia had a strong KGB, the CIA had important interests in doing as much of its activities by the book as possible to avoid international embarrassment. We kept each other in check.

Right now, it just came into the news that our CIA director is performing diplomacy with the Taliban. We never elected him to do any such thing; it's extremely troubling. The CIA director has no experience or authority performing international diplomacy and it is against long-standing United States policy to negotiate with terrorists.

You guys have lifetime politicians who control elections. We have lifetime bureaucrats who were never elected in the first place. Our "Party" is hidden from sight working in Washington to oppose American voters. It gets much more complicated than that, of course. But that's the gist of it.

It's a mess.

This is very close and clear to us. The receiver of the KGB - the current FSB, is mainly involved in corruption scandals. We didn't choose them either. Moreover, we did not choose one person for 21 years in a row.😡

No, Not as much as you might think. In America, the medias say all our problems are from America too.

I have the 67 version. I love it. Gets great gas mileage. I just do not get to drive it much because of my work schedule. Becoming more of a garage queen. Has 53500 original miles.

Hello John! You have a great car!👍 The original condition is very valuable! It is noticeable that the car is loved and well-groomed!🙂👏
Yesterday I made sure that the engine of my Mustang is original. Therefore, I will repair it and use it.

The question about the duplicate number on the body. Where should he be in ' 68? I don't have one at this place.🤔🤔🤔

There may be additional VIN numbers on the opposite (Passenger side) aprons, hidden under the fender. If your driver’s side is missing the ViN, it is either painted over, or the panel was replaced due to damage or rust.

It should also be etched in the windshield and back glass

Thank you. I love driving it. It is all stock. Base model. So no options on it. When I do get to drive it, I drive the highways. Will easily cruise 70mph(/I think that is about 110kph) and still have gas in the tank
Thank you! I will check👍
I think I also have it etched in the door glass but not sure right now
