Mystery Part????

1280 6
Hidden deep in the trunk of the fastback, this part was found. I have no idea what it is, other that some sort of bracket. It has a ford part number stamped into it and it is: C5AA-2888-D. And here's a couple of pics, they're not too good but you can get an idea of what it looks like:

There was also another part that was laying in the trunk when I bought it, but for the life of me I can't remember where I put it....

Rob this looks like an A/C compressor mount lateral bracket for a 1965 289. There is a picture of one just like it on page 5-56 of Bob Mannel's Mustang & Ford Small Block V8 book. It shows a part number of C5AA-2888-D. Which looks like what your's has. The picture looks just like yours too. The book says the A/C compressor was mounted on a cast iron platform and supported by a lateral bracket (this part). The cast iron platform's part number was C5AA-2882-G.

Yep, that's what it is. My Stang has AC and that's the mount for the compressor.

Sometimes I scare myself, I heard the part number and thought "sounds like a compressor brace from about 65 to early 67 289". I need a new hobby that involves more interaction with people!
