NASAU Hood question

Can someone explain to me the difference between the "scoops" and the "inserts" on the 71-73 Mach 1 hoods ? I have seen what appears to be chrome scoops on the openings of some hoods. Are the inserts to ducts that draw air to the carbs ?

I look at it every time I read your posts, and have never told you, but that T-bird is absolutely gorgeous! Must be a nice, smooth ride, huh?
