I have "inherited" my parents one owner 1973 Montego MX Brougham coupe. They can't drive anymore and they need someone to sell the car for them. This is an amazing old beast with a fresh reman'd 351C 2V under the hood. He had it put in in 1993 by a Mercury dealer and only drove it another 9K. Everything from the vinyl top to the air conditioning to the power windows is original and in good working order. The problem is nobody is interested in a Montego. If it was a Torino, no sweat, but a Montego (same body as Torino) is just a big gas hog to most people. Most used car web sites don't deal with cars that old. Anyone out there have any experience in this area or suggestions as to how to sell it?

I tried http://www.nada.com They seriously have every price listed... Now getting that price, that's another story! BTW, HotRod mag for sometime has been working on Project Monte1go. It's the exact same car. You could do the same thing and have a fun cuiser! Not to mention a converstation piece. If it's in good condition I would keep it and drive it.

Here is what NADA said:

CHeck out this site...I'd e-mail this guy. Looks like he has 4 or 5 of them. Also, seems as though there are a lot more of these around.. Who would have thought.

Actually, not a bad looking car. Heck of a lot better than the Torino of the same year. Here is the site. Yes, you read it right, a Mercury MOntego site...message board and all.

I had to buy a "whole" '68 Mercury Monterrey to get to the 390 engine and tranny. I grabbed the radiator and everything else the interchange manual mentioned...now what to do with the glass and hulk? I will probably keep some parts of the body and floor pan for sheet metal patches. Good luck with your folks car.
