You can use either waterpump on that cover. They only ones that dont directly interchange are the reverse rotation later models. Pick the side you want, and order it up!

Do you have a 289 in it now? If I member correctly the 289 pump hose is on the passenger side & the 302 is on the driver side. Or is it too early for me to be answering questions? :)

Get the water pump where the outlets match with the radiator you're using. Let the location of the radiator inlet/outlet be your guide.

The early aluminum and early cast iron are also not interchangeable as the timing covers differ. Note there are now aluminum closed impeller water pump versions that do replace the cast iron pump. Makes everything even more confusing. For all non HiPo's the rule is use cast iron or aluminum replacement for cast iron. These both have closed impellers with steel plate on the back side of the pump. The timing cover will have a shallow recess for the water pump.

For HiPo's only the timing cover has a deep recess and the aluminum water pump has open impeller you can see on the back side of the pump.
