Help! I've tried installing a new door spring on my 67 coupe all weekend to no avail. I tried compressing it in a vise and using mechanic's wire but can't get it evenly spaced. Does anybody have any other method that works easily?

Thanks in advance.

You either need to remove the hinge or take off the fender. You can only get it on when the hinge is in the closed-door position.

Use a file to make a very tiny notch in the last windings of the spring. The mechanics wire will stay in these notches et voila......

The best, foolproof way is...drum roll please...stop by your local body shop and borrow their door spring tool. It only takes a couple of minutes to compress the spring and slip it right in there. No damange...no problemo! Or you can purchase one for a few dollars at a parts store...or they might put it in for a couple of dollars slipped into the right hand... ::
