Over by the fairgrounds near where I live, there is a guy that always has some neat classics needing restoration. He has a fenced in yard, where he keeps about 20 cars. Well, my dad and I happened to be driving by there, and we saw that he has a 71-73 Mach 1, a 65 coupe, and a 70 Mach 1 in the driveway of the little garage. So, we stop by to check them out. Well, just as we get there, he is leaving. He sees us looking at his cars, and gets an attitude. He starts saying how they aren't for sale, he's gonna restore them soon, blah blah blah. Then he says he has 12 more Mustangs in the back, and none of them are for sale either. Grrrr. Another one of those "he'll restore 'em someday" stories. Anyways, we drive around to the back, and through the fence, I spot the rear of a 67 Shelby! I was so angry, and I am still cooling down. They are all sitting there with flat tires, sinking into the crud and other junk. Thanks for letting me vent...

And with the weather you get there its just accellerating the rot. I just don't understand people hording such treasures. By letting them rot it decreases the value. Ahhh now I'm venting

You know how if someone is neglecting or abusing animals you can call Animal Control and they'll take care of the situation (I did it once). Maybe we should lobby the government to create a "Classic Car Control" agency. In situations like yours (or my moms neighbor with a rotting 65 Vert), you could call these guys and they would be empowered to slap a court order on the offendor to either get off their butts and restore those cars or put them up for auction to someone who will! Boy, I'd keep that number on speed dial!

You are young. Chances are that this guy will leave these to someone who won't delude themselves into thinking they will fix them up.

How old is he anyway? Maybe he will let you throw a tarp over the Shelby!

Do I hear an auctioneer?

I don't know how old he is, looked to be maybe in his mid fortys? Somewhere around there. I don't think he even knows it's a shelby. Probably just 'another car to him'. I am going to try to talk to him about it, though. I like the idea of the Classis Car Control. Hehe. We need something like that.

Most cities and towns have ordinances about the number of unregistered cars one can have in ones yard. Perhaps a call to the appropriate local agency and a timely follow-up visit with cash in hand will have a salutary effect.
