I have installed my B & M Megashifter, and I need help wiring up my Neutral safety switch. I have NO IDEA where the wires are for it. My car was a 4spd car....HELP!!!!

To be clear, I need help wiring up the NEW neutral safety switch that came with the shifter. I do not know what wires to splice this switch into.

If it came from the factory with a 4 speed it wouldn't have the switch. Or would it?

If it came from the factory with a 4-speed the neutral safety would be on the clutch pedal, not the tranny. Right?

If it was a 4 speed I don't think it would have a neutral safety switch...The only switch I think it would have is a reverse light switch...Which on my '69 the reverse switch harness attaches to a weatherproof two conductor connector that goes through the firewall at roughly the midpoint of the firewall right under where the the export braces attach to the firewall. Or if you are asking how to install a neutral safety switch now that you have an automatic, well that I don't know.

If the car was originally a 4 speed car, there won't be a nuetral safety switch installed, as it attaches to the transmission. The switch is installed in series between the S(start) post on the ignition switch and the starter solenoid, opening the circut in any position other than Park or Neutral.

Ok, that makes sense. Where under the dash can I find this wire? Anyone know which wire to splice my switch into? I would prefer to do this inside the car instead of in the engine compartment.

Thanks

Ok, somebody said this already but wouldn't you just wire it in as an open into the start wire on your ignition key switch? The start wire is the one that energizes the left small post on your starter solenoid. That way the ignition switch is dead even in the start position unless your neutral switch is closed which should only happen in park or neutral. I'd have to pull down my idnition switch to see which wire under there is the start ignition wire.

On the back side of the ignition switch there will be a terminal labeled "S"
Run a wire(probably the original), from terminal "S"...to the neutral safety switch...to the starter solenoid post labeled "S".
In other words, splice the neutral safety switch in the original wire running from the "S" post on the key switch to the "S" post on the starter solenoid.

That is just what I thought. I was HOPING (grin) there was some wiring already in place for this, but because it is a 4spd car, I guess not. I think I can handle it :)

thanks
