I went to autozone and had my car tested after 2 dead batteries. The autometer said it was a low regulator. I looked at my regulator and it only had a plug with three wires attached. the "I" wire was not present. Does this mean that the regulator was good but was not being turned on -thus causing no recharge??? the regulator they tried to sell me was only 19$ dollars, but i wanted to make sure before i bought a new one and had the same thing happen.?? thanks for any help

The "I" terminal supplied power to the "ALT" idiot light. If you didnd't have the idiot light, the car didn't even have that wire.
