Are roller rockers supposed to make a little noise? Mine are adjusted according to what I was told, but they still have a little noise to them. They are hydraulic flat tappets and roller rockers.
Thanks,

Hydraulic rollers should be adjusted the same as non rollers. I'm not sure what the instructions said but if you adjusted them with clearence then that was the spec for solid lifters and they should be re-adjusted to the hydraulic spec, (1/4-1/2 turn preload).

They shouldn't be noisy. I would check again to make sure they are adjusted right and if ok then check for a bad rocker.

We have a new cam ( .471 lift in and ex) , hydraulic lifters and Energizer roller rockers attched to Powerheads. They do make some noise. Not a clancking noise. I would describe it as a muffled tapping type noise. Not as loud as the stock rail rockers but a noise. I was also concerned and brought it by two performance shops and both of the mechanics said that the valve train sounded normal to them.
If one or two valves seem to be noisier than the others it could be how the roller tip is riding on the valve stem. But if they all sound the same then its probably normal.

If they're adjusted correctly (be sure to re-check after everything settles in), I wouldn't worry about it..

I purchased composite valve covers for the race car and was amazed how quiet the valvetrain was with them (I run solids and the car is corked up)...once the engine is warmed up, it's hard to tell the valvetrain noise from the header pulses...

That is the way I adjusted them. They are pedistal and I used shims to get the rockers to just make the lifter ceter to move and then turned them 3/4 of a turn to tighten to 15lbs. After that was done , it was sugested that I tighten to 22lbs,so I just tightend. Its not a lot of noise, just the muffled ticking.

What type of valve covers are you using? I've heard that the rollers may not fit under most standard-height covers and would hit the baffles under the fill holes.
