On a '65 automatic coupe, like my car, did the OE factory exhaust system have a resonator AND a muffler or just the muffler? Thanks

Some early cars came with a muffler only. However, most cars came with a resonator and muffler.

I would say that it came with both. Is there any particular reason that you want it that way? I think I would upgrade to the factory dual exhaust.

Thanks for the reply. I'm just kicking around ideas. The previous owner put duals on it, but not w/an "H" pipe. The rest of the car is stock, just like it was when new and I'm considering taking the duals off. Maybe I can find a new home for them...

No, it's not too loud; I actually like the sound. More because it's not stock although I've read that back in the day there was the possibility of a dealer installed dual system. PM me if you or someone you know is interested in hearing it or making me an offer on it.

The resonator was added to deepen and smooth the exhaust tone. Non-GT A codes had this exhaust, too.
