how and how much and what would be needed to convert an automatic to a stick shift?

what you're converting to. A conversion to a new T5 will run you close to 2k. If you are going from, say, a C4 to a toploader, I'd budget at least $1000. Why? Because you'll have to go thru any used gearbox you buy (unless you know its history) and all the little odds/ends will nickel and dime you for a few hundred. Without a complete 4-speed parts car, it is a pretty substantial undertaking. The easiest way to convert is to buy a complete set up like CJ PonyParts' T5 set ups. Unfortuately, that's also the most expensive way. Check with Poppy65, Chris Hunter. He converted his 65 last year.
