Once my hydraulic lifter 289 warms up, it makes more valve noise -- a very slight tick and wooshing sound. Nothing terrible, mind you, just annoying.

I am using Castrol 10w30 right now. Shold I go with 30w or something different? Suggestions? Experiences?

these cars all called for 10W40 by the manufacturer, I don't know why anyone is using 10W30..it is for much newer engines

The oil rating system and oil bases have been revised so many times, you just can't compare the weights of yesterdays oils to todays. Even my 1990 F150....the oem originally called for 10-40. With the most recent change a few years ago, I run 5-30, no oil consumption or valvetrain noise.

I presently run 5-30 in my stang, ambient operating temperature is 60-90 degrees. If it reached 100+, then I would run 5-40.

I think I would check the valve adjustment, hydraulics should not be making and ticking noises.

Yeah, it only had a static adjustment since I've not done anything to them since it was rebuilt about 6000 miles ago.
