The rear end of my car measures 57.5" or maybe 1/16" less. But it has non tapered axle housings with 2 dimples and a plug. I can't figure out what car it may have come out of. Any advice? Its definitely an 8" but not sure where it came from?

Thanks,
Dean

Where are the measurements taken from, that makes a difference as well.

My 8" isn't tapered, it's out of an early 70s Comet I believe, measures 50" from the backing plates.

I measure from the end of the axle flanges - used a plumb bob that was handy but it was pretty thick so at best it would be 57.25 but without a taper so I'm not sure what it could be from.

What car do you have?

Sorry I forgot to mention it - a 65 mustang fastback. It seems to line up to a 57-58 ranchero/wagon?

Hunh, that makes a difference. There's some good info on the Stangnet forum about 9" measurements.

No its an 8" I had to replace the chunk earlier this year. I forgot that the 57-58's were 9"
