The car is a 70 Mach I, M code, Metuchen, October 69 build date. Marti says it came with an FMX. The owner claims the transmission that came with the car (out of the car now) is the original. Is it true that in 70 the transmission would have a partial vin stamped in it? Where would that be? Been all over this thing and can't find it. All I see is a very faint "0T" or might be "10" stamped into the edge of the trans at the top, where it bolts up to the bellhousing. There is no tag on the unit.

By the way, I assume this is an FMX. Marked 09ZP 7006 15 on one side and and DOAE 9430 F on the other. Any thoughts?

First we would expect to find the trans stamped with the cars VIN (short version)

A FMX has a removable bellhousing and tail housing with a cast iron main body

Not sure where NJ stamped then exactly that year - that trans. But would be on the top of the trans

That does describe this transmission. I will keep looking for the partial VIN, assume it would be on the main body but maybe need to check everything. thanks Jeff.
