When I start the car from cold, the P/S pump on the 67 F/B squealls like some body is strangling a pig under the bonnet !
Then as it warms up it just sounds like somebody grinding their teeth ( very loudly)
So can somebody tell me what the problem is (apart from the fact that the pump has gone ,or is about to , go to God )???

Thanks

Seems pretty obvious, but have you checked the belt tension? High pitched squealing is often caused by a loose (slipping) belt.

Also, just after purchasing my 69, I had a "rattling" at idle that could be heard from a block away. I traced it to a thin u-shaped bracket at the back of the unit used to direct (?) one of the hoses. It was loose and clattering against the housing back. Try checking the connections.

Can some body explain what happens when it makes those types of noises ??
