Here's a photo of the PACE CAR lettering that was on my coupe:

Does that look like acid etching to you? I think it was just a standard grease marker that got painted over. Over time, the mark become fossilized into the surface.

I guess we know these cars are old when we use terms like "fossilized" huh?

Steve, here's another pic. It's a closeup of the PACE lettering on my car.

I found grease pencil markings on my radiator support. The paint code, engine code, and a few others were marked on mine and then painted over. Is your car a Dearborn car?

Jim Smart looked at my car last Spring when I picked it up at Mustangs Plus in Stockton, CA.
He said it is an actual acid marker.
My photo isn't as close up as your's but still legible.

The "other" Utah pace car presently being restored had a wrecked radiator support. Even though I told those guys the value of the Pace etching, they discarded it and have used a non-etched replacement. VERY SAD!
Steve and Chris, I don't often comment on your posts here at VMF, but I print them all out for the time my undergoes its restoration. Thanks for all your help.
