How perfect does the bodywork have to be to get away with Dark Metallic Grey or black paint?
Do flaws show as much with Flat black as with gloss black?

Flaws are greater with higher gloss levels and darker paint. Alignment problems are most visible with very light colors (the gaps appear black relative to a white color).

Ditto.

If you are going to paint it black it needs to be very straight.

Metallics also require a bit of extra prep from a solid color. They are more prone to showing sand scratches than a solid, so finer finishing grits must be used (i.e. 500 grit on a DA with an interface pad or 800 grit wet).
