I have a 67 convertable that I am working on and found a 67 coupe for parts. Now the coupe will cost $500 and is in restorable shape and has alot of what I am looking for: Floor console, reskined doors, disc brakes, excellent front seats. All of this for $500 and it would cost me more than $1500 for all of this later and I can install some of what I take off of my vert on this and sell it to someone else as a project.

Well how do I convince SWMBO that this is a great deal and would save time and money overall? She really likes the high balance in the checking account.
Help?
Any one interested in a coupe project when (if) this works out?

I Just went thru this. Show her financially how this would benefit her! Show her how much the parts would cost, and how much you can save by buying the parts car. Then show her you can sell the shell for additional money. Then buy her something nice for her. It work like a charm for me!!!!

yeah, show her how much you will save in the long run!
it really does make a difference
if she lets you do it, remind her how much you just saved as you are using the parts off the car
if she doesn`t let you get it, let her know how much you could have saved if you had that darned parts car!

Its always easier to ask for forgiveness rather than permission (and have a gift in hand when you tell her about the bad, bad thing you did).

Go out and buy her a tennis bracelet and say, "This is what I can buy you with the money I save from getting a parts car, otherwise I have to return it tommorrow"

Whats that old saying:

"You can pay me now ($500),
or pay me later ($1500)" /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

Like some others have said... don't ask, just buy, then make up for it later... Or do what I've seen my Dad do, set aside a personal Mustang fund that is none of her business. Then you don't have to report to anyone!

A disc brake car for $500!!! Buy it and say your sorry later. Sell your wife on the concept that you have a plan for the disposal of the carcass. Either you strip it to the bone and let the crusher have it, or resale if its a good body.

I have a 72 Mach 1 I got a few weeks back for the brakes and 9 inch rear end. I've already pulled a ton of parts off of it and next I'll put it on the trailer, jack it up, and pull the spindles and rear end. Next stop is the bone yard where they can unload it with a fork truck. Parts cars are a great way to get parts cheap.

It is definately worth the money, you'll probably get the parts you need for free and maybe make a litte money of the left overs. You need to tell here that your doing it because it makes the most financial sense. If she is an unreasonable person, show her a financial breakdown between buying the parts car and buying the parts seperately.

Good luck.

BTW, my last parts car paid for half of my new project car, and I still have an extra engine and trans out of the deal.

Just as an example. I baught a 70 coupe for $400 bucks. As of this date it has raked in over $2300 on E B A Y. You will quickly double that $500 and save money on the parts you need. I should have done it like this years ago. I am soo much further ahead now because of it. If I find another one or two between now and fall I will get my paint job paid for without anything out of pocket. Just be sure you do the posting and picture taking while she is doing something or visiting the in-laws.
