I have a distibutor body that a PO left on the engine when repainting. I could bead blast it, but I was just thinking about how exhaust manifold paint doesn't hold up because of the heat. I was wondering how difficult it would be to get the paint off the dizzy just using a heat gun. Anyone done this?

Use some steel wool. It will strip the paint and bring back the finish. My distributor wasn't painted before but it almost looks new after a steel wool scrubbing.

I'd recommend steel wool too. I used a propane torch to strip the paint on the interior side of two '65 doors with great success but the paint was so thick it completely obscured the texture in the door. I also damaged my lungs with the fumes coming off the paint. whoops.

Take it apart, glass beed blast it,then clear coat it with high heat spay bomb clear.Looks new for a long time and you can wash it off when you clean you engine from time to time.Or just wipe it off sometimes.
