Car is a 70 Mach I. Supposedly the door was working fine and now suddenly it won't open, at least from the outside. Haven't had any real time to look at it but was wondering if this was a common problem or some basic things to look at. If I have to take the door panel off would that involve removing the seat since the door is in the way? Owner says he thinks "the door handle button stopped working". Any ideas?

Not familiar in detail with the '70, but if the latch mechanism is similar to the 65-68's the rods can come unclipped. Either that or the button shaft could have broken.

Popping off the door panel should give access, sometimes you can roll down the window and remove the rear seal and get a decent look inside to see if something is loose...

Do you have stanard or deluxe interior? If standard, just remove the 2 screws that hold the metal top cap on and look down inside the shell with a flashight and work the inner door handle.

Watch what moves.

Work the outer button and see what doesn't move.

It's the latching mechanism or possibly requiring the hinges to be adjusted due to sag, etc. Have Russ take a quick look/make a recommendation. Speaking of, get a quick list ahead of time to casually review.
