Well after wrestling with my U-joints I finnally won and they gave in and decided to pop out......WOOHOO it's all down hill from here right....NOT I go to put the new joint in and it's the wrong F*#king One!!!!!!!!! I [email protected] Hate pep boys, 8 out of ten times they give me the wrong part. The other places aren't any better either. I usualy go to my local Mom& Pop place Because they know what they are doing, but there closed on the weekend.
What really pisses me off is that the closest Parts store to me is 15 miles away and it's pepboys. I just came back from there 2 hours ago.
Oh and I have to pick my mother up this afternoon from the airport in this car.

Ok I feel better now....Thanx

I can never find anything I want at chain stores. I usually end up having my dad in PA pick up stuff from "Bob" at the local mom & pop store there. There is a shortage of good auto places in Chicago.

"Bob" usually calls him once a month asking "Hey I found an XXXXXXX, do you think your kid might need it for the Mustang?"

That's service.......

I'm lucky. I am on a first name basis with my parts guy.
They have been in buisness for over 50 years. He can usually
find just what I need for the "FBD"

As I've stated before, Pep Boys sucks. At least they didn't damage your car.

These type auto/stores are for fussy dice/plastic bolt on stuff, type persons! I have a Mustang restoration shop, here in town. (RDW,is the name) But find a good old auto/garage shop, that's been in bussiness, for along time. They know how and where to get parts.

Hmmm. You must be mistaken. Everytime I take back a *wrong* part they tell me I'm wrong 'cause that is what the book says. Maybe this explains my lack of progress (having to make the part fit my car!). Like the two barrel carb for my 200. The PO must have put on the 1bbl. But hey, look at all the plastic cup holders and miles of shelving they have for the waxes they carry.

Yeah.,.. So does AutoZoo.

I went into AutoZoo 2 days ago when I was rewiring my Mustang and I asked for a female adapter for the female plug that I needed to use. The guy said, "Just splice the wire down, stick it in the female plug and crimp it." My GOD! That would've set me fricken' car on fire! I proceeded to Kragen, and they told me the CORRECT thing... They gave me the part I needed, and quick. It probably helps that there are 2 people that work there that both have classic Ponies.

Success with these chain places is spotty at best. If I can I take the old part with me and match it up I will.

Sometimes an old timer will know the right part. NAPA is good but they are usually closed when I want to work on my cars. They supply the repair shops around town.

The first thing I do when going to PEP BOYS is tell them don't touch the computer, use the paper, (yes PAPER! Book!). They always try to look up a late sixties or early seventies Mustang for my car cause that's as far back as their computers go. My car is a 1966. They usually give me the wrong part. I can't even check for a filter on my own anymore cause their catalogs that they have in the aisles don't go back to the sixties anymore.
I thinks its Autozone that has their computer go back far enough. Try them. I also find that mom and pop type stores seem much better in getting correct parts. I bought a head gasket set from one for $10 less than PEP BOYS.

Most of them don't even know they have books let alone how to look somthing up. Even the manager told me a few weeks ago that he couldn't help me because thier computers only go back to 68....This was the Store manager!!!!!!!!

Pep Boys, Auto Zone and Kragen all suck. Pep is the worst and auto and kragen compete fiercely for the second worst position. Anyone of us can out do most of the people that work in these places. They act like they know so much and the customer is the one that is wrong. In all fairness, IMHO Kragen does have slightly more knowledgeable people (not much) and people at Auto Zone are willing to help more. Pep Boys has no pluses except for there grade 8 bolt selection.

Pep Boys is the worst ... except maybe Kragen's (it's the wrong part 10 out of 10 times at Kragen's).

I needed a Smog pump for my Bronco. I went to Autozone, and while they normally stock the smog pump, there's 2 different kind and they were out of the one I needed, but had it at another store. Not wanting to drive to their other store, I went over to Pep Boys. The store manager tells me that the smog pump for an '81 Bronco can only be obtained used from a junk yard. When I told him that Autozone stocks them, he replied, "No they don't. They only think they do". To which I told him that I personally saw one at Autozone, it's just the wrong kind, but they stock both kinds. He just gave me a dumb look and said "really?" ... pure dip ****s at Pep Boys (pardon my french, but they really are!).

You have to take them all with a grain of salt.
Went to napa to get a 8" rear end gasket and axel seals
Both were the wrong size. Pep boys is no better.
I'm pretty much sold on using Mustang Unlimited, NPD or any on the mustang specalty stores.

My son got me into this and I'm having a ball

Can't say it enough how awful our local Pep Boys is. They are the largest concentration of auto idiots I've ever seen. And the parts they sell are the cheapest, lowest quality remanufactured crap I've ever (unfortunately) used.
You get what you pay for.
