Is it required to install a Flamethrower coil when installing a Pertronix ignitor system or is it just recommended? Will a stock coil work fine?

The pertronix will smooth out your car some, but for the extra $40, might as well get the coil that goes with it. It makes the car run really good IMHO.

Huh? Where have you seen this recommendation?

Probably: "The Ignitor II ignition can be used in conjunction with most ignition coils rated at 0.6 ohms or greater. For optimum performance purchase and install the Flame-Thrower II high performance coil" ... in the Ignitor II installation instructions, natch!

More like product placement than a true recommendation, but OK.

I have been running with the Pertronix ignitor system and the original coil that came with the car new for around 35000 miles without any problems on my 66.
