Let's get started with the pluses and minuses of the new format....

So far I like most everything....
It would be nice if we could separate the logged in users for the forum from those of the classifieds...I imagine that'll come in time...

The UBB...(markup) feature is a good one if we can use it within reason...ok, I won't go posting carb pictures in 1024x768! *G*

I want everyone to fill out their bio and post a nice picture of themselves in their profile....hehehe

Let's chew on this....

I'll fill out my bio, but with a pic of my car instead.....don't want to scare away any prospective new members. LOL

1 more vote for segregation.

Yeah, I figure I'll be the whipping boy for awhile...hehehe...

Try the search feature and the private mail system and see what you think....

I also vote for no anonimity...I think Bob is just trying this out right now and these things will change...

Now, a biggie....computer guys, would it be possible to port the database records of the old VMF into a searchable database accessable through the new search engine..??

Tall order I know.....but once it got out that our search engine worked and all those posts were there to read, we'd close down those other sites...hehehe

Well, maybe not, but I'd sure like to peruse that library from time to time...

Try using threaded mode and see if that works better for you...you're likely in flat mode...

You can change it on your display preferences area of your profile...

BTW....spell checker works great...

Also, look next to the title of the post....it'll say who the response is to, when in flat mode or expanded threaded mode....

Just posted a response to TJs_stangs post and when I submitted it, a raw HTML page came up....I opened a new window and checked the index to see if my post went through and it did...

I'm examining the HTML now to see what went wrong....

Here's the HTML I received...

Is this forum supposed to accept html?

I include an <a href=""> tag in a post and it was not recognized as a tag. It was displayed as written: "<a href=">blah blah</a>". Had to use the (sq. brackets)url.../url notation, then it worked.

Interesting...when I submitted this the first time, I actually used the square brackets and it came out as "http://...", as an active link.

It would be cool if you could click on the pics and have them enlarge so they are easier to see. I fear that the additional overhead of this new system is already going to make it run slower. Also, I really liked the thread display format of the older style better where everything was super easy to keep ordered chronologically speaking.

So far I'm finding this format easy to navigate...just check my post total for today....I'm also posting over on the old forum and finding I get frustrated trying to find threads...

So, from me, an overall thumbs-up so far...

I'm going to experiment with some code for enlarging pictures...don't know if it'll work in UBB....

I'm still trying to figure out how I can get a nice "porno" quality pic of myself on the site.....he he

Well, that's what everyone tells me it would look like....Friends tell me normal pic, but since I be so very disgusting to look at, it would be "porn"....What wonderful friends I have...huh?

Hey, try the search engine....say for "post picture" or something like that....

You'll need one uploaded to the web....the gang is now discovering which sites allow remote linking for pix and which don't....that oughta be an interesting subject....

Note how I changed the title of this post....now it'll show up in your search..I hope!

so far, im pretty impressed with the new format (except for being called "Stranger", that is). using markup should add some value and i like the spelling feature(but it still probably wont help when someone spells "solenoid" wrong, i bet).
i have noticed how much slower this format seems to be, but as pat said, maybe because the server is under heavy load.

You mean a mugshot underneath the poster's ID? Users have the option of adding a photo of themselves to their profiles; you have the option of viewing these mugs or not.

If you don't want to, edit your profile. In the Display Preferences page, at the bottom, there is an option to view or not view poster's pics in their profiles, and another option of viewing their pics in their posts. Set as appropriate.
