Let's get started with the pluses and minuses of the new format....

So far I like most everything....
It would be nice if we could separate the logged in users for the forum from those of the classifieds...I imagine that'll come in time...

The UBB...(markup) feature is a good one if we can use it within reason...ok, I won't go posting carb pictures in 1024x768! *G*

I want everyone to fill out their bio and post a nice picture of themselves in their profile....hehehe

Let's chew on this....

Yeah, I figure I'll be the whipping boy for awhile...hehehe...

Try the search feature and the private mail system and see what you think....

I also vote for no anonimity...I think Bob is just trying this out right now and these things will change...

Now, a biggie....computer guys, would it be possible to port the database records of the old VMF into a searchable database accessable through the new search engine..??

Tall order I know.....but once it got out that our search engine worked and all those posts were there to read, we'd close down those other sites...hehehe

Well, maybe not, but I'd sure like to peruse that library from time to time...

Try using threaded mode and see if that works better for you...you're likely in flat mode...

You can change it on your display preferences area of your profile...

BTW....spell checker works great...

Just posted a response to TJs_stangs post and when I submitted it, a raw HTML page came up....I opened a new window and checked the index to see if my post went through and it did...

I'm examining the HTML now to see what went wrong....

Here's the HTML I received...

So far I'm finding this format easy to navigate...just check my post total for today....I'm also posting over on the old forum and finding I get frustrated trying to find threads...

So, from me, an overall thumbs-up so far...

I'm going to experiment with some code for enlarging pictures...don't know if it'll work in UBB....

Hey, try the search engine....say for "post picture" or something like that....

You'll need one uploaded to the web....the gang is now discovering which sites allow remote linking for pix and which don't....that oughta be an interesting subject....

Note how I changed the title of this post....now it'll show up in your search..I hope!

I just noticed another possible inconvenience...

There are some control buttons at the top of the pages that migrate to the right when someone posts a long, contiguous string and shoves the right side of the page over....that makes the buttons hard to get to without scrolling for we folks with small monitors (I'm on the wife's iMac right now) or laptops....

Maybe put the buttons on the left??

What do you think??

I wanted to go back and edit the main post to change the title so we could discuss forum mechanics here as that is much of what is contained in this thread...

However, I received a server error that the maximum time for editing this post had expired....

So, there's a time limit for editing posts here....

Hmmm....will have to find out what it is...

That's a very good point that others have made as well...

Bob's spending a bit more time here right now so I'll bet he's picking up on some of these things....until he gets a fix or posts an explanation, for those who post their combos in their bio area, I would suggest creating a bio page on your home page and using markup language in your signature line to create the link...

That stuff is covered in the FAQ here

We're going to continue to attract folks to post car ads until the Vintage Mustang Classifieds goes away from the top of the pages....

I know Bob put a very emphatic directive at the main link but we're the first one on the list and I know how some people just hate being told what to do...*G*

Opinions???

I've noticed, as have others, that the pictures attached to my profile have been slow to load at times today....I was thinking maybe it is my ISP causing problems but I can't get a consistent download of the picture when I refresh the page...

I wonder if it's how the software processes and picks the link on the net....computer gurus??

I put pictures up mainly to test the systems features...I'm not going to torture you all with my mug (or car) forever....they were already very small file sizes I knew would load fast to test stuff....

Feedback is appreciated....

Pat

Glad I wandered back into the basement...

As far as I know, the posts on the old VMF are of an incompatible format to port to this software....

Jay, who has a fair amount of database experience, has offered to experiment with this in a safe place so as not to damage the databases of either forum. We hope to have a solution by the time the old VMF is frozen in May....

If nothing else, I hope we can at least port the old forum to a searchable database as it contains boundless knowledge and experience, such as yours...

I'm sure Jay, Bob or others will post any developments as they happen...

Oh, did you mean posting totals...?? hehehe

Understand....you wanted compatible search by username, yes?

Given the differences, unless we port the old usernames and manually do the conversion to the new format, I don't see an easy way.....maybe Jay has some more ideas...
