Bill:

fix your [img/] to [/img] ... You knew that.

If you get tired of see Pat in every post or the Pink Flamingoes that should soon appear, under profile -> display options -> turn of the two options at the bottom for pics in signature and the other one...

I just noticed another possible inconvenience...

There are some control buttons at the top of the pages that migrate to the right when someone posts a long, contiguous string and shoves the right side of the page over....that makes the buttons hard to get to without scrolling for we folks with small monitors (I'm on the wife's iMac right now) or laptops....

Maybe put the buttons on the left??

What do you think??

I wanted to go back and edit the main post to change the title so we could discuss forum mechanics here as that is much of what is contained in this thread...

However, I received a server error that the maximum time for editing this post had expired....

So, there's a time limit for editing posts here....

Hmmm....will have to find out what it is...

I went to transfer my bio and sig and ran hard up against a 250 character
limit on bios. (There's also a 100 char limit on sigs, but I can see the sense
of that). I only have two Ponies and I can't really include all the pertinent
info about them in 250 chars. Having a detailed bio helps the gurus see
the details about our rides and/or problems without cluttering a given thread
with details about our rides.

I'd suggest removing the restriction on the bio field, or if it's a database issue,
upping the size of the field to maybe 1k.

That's a very good point that others have made as well...

Bob's spending a bit more time here right now so I'll bet he's picking up on some of these things....until he gets a fix or posts an explanation, for those who post their combos in their bio area, I would suggest creating a bio page on your home page and using markup language in your signature line to create the link...

That stuff is covered in the FAQ here

We're going to continue to attract folks to post car ads until the Vintage Mustang Classifieds goes away from the top of the pages....

I know Bob put a very emphatic directive at the main link but we're the first one on the list and I know how some people just hate being told what to do...*G*

Opinions???

I've noticed, as have others, that the pictures attached to my profile have been slow to load at times today....I was thinking maybe it is my ISP causing problems but I can't get a consistent download of the picture when I refresh the page...

I wonder if it's how the software processes and picks the link on the net....computer gurus??

I put pictures up mainly to test the systems features...I'm not going to torture you all with my mug (or car) forever....they were already very small file sizes I knew would load fast to test stuff....

Feedback is appreciated....

Pat

Right now, I see there are over 3700 users, I'd bet a lot of the old VMFers haven't even come over yet. At 1k each, that's already 3 meg in JUST Bios! Remember that in a database, you must reserve the space for each user that MIGHT use it, not just the ones that do. Condense you're iinfo. Let's use the Bob's disk space for posts of valuable info.

Other than the pretty back ground, I have my profile where it pretty much looks like the old forum. I'm pretty happy with the new format!

I see how this works now. No wonder you have so many posts racked up. You posted a message, then kept answering yourself and had 15 posts in this one thread. You're good!

(a quote from Bill Cosby) - Now I need to learn how to do that! Might take me a few days - not the brightest bulb in the pack.

I just noticed another thing I like about this forum - I can click show all and get all the posts in the thread opened at once. I like that - less click wear and tear on the ol' mouse.

Now I need to get more original with my bio...

Glad I wandered back into the basement...

As far as I know, the posts on the old VMF are of an incompatible format to port to this software....

Jay, who has a fair amount of database experience, has offered to experiment with this in a safe place so as not to damage the databases of either forum. We hope to have a solution by the time the old VMF is frozen in May....

If nothing else, I hope we can at least port the old forum to a searchable database as it contains boundless knowledge and experience, such as yours...

I'm sure Jay, Bob or others will post any developments as they happen...

Oh, did you mean posting totals...?? hehehe

Understand....you wanted compatible search by username, yes?

Given the differences, unless we port the old usernames and manually do the conversion to the new format, I don't see an easy way.....maybe Jay has some more ideas...
