Why? Can't imagine that the original was as good as a newer Hurst. I've got a 68 with a toploader and wouldn't trade my Hurst Competition Plus for anything.
I have the complete shifter and linkages from my car when it was removed and replaced with a Hurst unit. If you would like a picture let me know. Bottom line, if you are going to drive it, use the Hurst shifter. Show car then go original.
That original is not a good thing. It has a tendency to lose its adjustment because I think it was designed for factory quickness instead of steadfastness.
I am just in the process of swapping 68 Ford shifter to Hurst Comp+ with new linkage. If Comp+ is good enough for Nascar then it is good enough for me.
