I made an earkier post about problems I was having with pulley alignment on a power steering pump. Upon closer look, it appears that the previous owner put the pulley on backwards. To remove the pulley, is this a press fit with the pump shaft or is the pulley threaded onto the pump shaft????

Thanks,

Scott

Press fit and it will be a bear to get off if it is on backwards. That groove, on what is supposed to be the outside of the pully, is what you are supposed to clamp onto to pull.

You NEED a power steering pump pulley puller. Otherwise you will ruin the pump. :(

Thanks for the responce. Is the pulley puller something that I can get from a local auto parts store?

you can borrow one at autozone. But as previous posted stated it's going to be a bear to get off. A regular puller may not do it since it's on backward.

Your local machine shop can press it off for minimal cost and no hassles on your part .
