Pre-Knotts Dinner - 4/21

67Delilah has given us a few more choices. Please see his post from the wee hours of 3/7. It looks like no single place is ideal (location, security, price menu,...). I'd like to have this worked out in the next week or so. So please read Bob's post and let us know what you think.

Glenn,

I posted my wife's response in 67's thread....

BTW, for anyone who reads this, the easiest way to find these threads, since we returned to the old posting format, is to use the search engine.....took 5 seconds...

My vote for bringing threads with new information to the top still stands....I think the software could be configured so the user could select which method they want.

Glenn,

My thinking is this: The further we get from the park, the more options we have, and consequently, more potential for dis-organization, miscommunication etc. that will detract from the idea of having a great time. Earlier I suggested a place like Dave & Busters because it is fun for the WHOLE family with an arcade, a bar, a resturaunt and ample parking. But it is at least five miles from the park. Knowlwood is typical americana type stuff (burgers, fries shakes, etc.). The food is good. The ambiance is limited, but would suffice. I think that if Bob was willing to actually go out and scout, he should probably be given the authority to choose a place. As a side note...Randy (Bosscars) suggested that many times there are several tail-gaters that occure the night before, and bopping around from place to place might be an entertaining alternative. Perhaps a brief tally of who will ACTUALLY attend, and a quick comment on their preference is in order?

Yes we are coming! It'll be me (67Delilah) my wife(SWMBO), #1 son (68Acapulco) with his car and #2 son (Black Mariah) That's four and you already heard my scouting report.

I will be there along with SWMBO..
Shannon makes some excellent points. I would only add that I'd prefer that the place be quiet enough to chat with and get to know you guys and that it have a parking lot where we can assemble and oggle the cars.

Bob - Would you have any problem being the dictator here? Again, it's a little tacky of me to propose this thing and then look to others for execution, but there's the small matter of 1500 miles. I'd be willing to go along with whatever you decide...

Early next week I'll make a timed run from Knott's to the Knowlwood's in Orange and get back to you on mileage and time. I'll grant you that the food at KW's is mighty good, but my "small radius" search is the result of once being an out-of -towner. Following a long line of cars to a remote restaurant turned into a grownup version of "crack the whip".

Sounds like a plan, Bob. I hope this is not an imposition. While I certainly understand the logistical risk inherent in going 5 or 6 miles from the park, I can also relate to the need for being able to see (and feel comfortable about) where your car is parked. All of these places have pros and cons and since you are there 'on the ground' I will defer to your judgement. Thanks for all the trouble you've gone to.

My wife says Knolllwoods is about 30 minutes from the Buena Park area....

She ate there as a kid and hung out there as a teenager and says they had great food....hasn't been there in about 6-8 years...

Burgers better than In-n-Out....did I say that already somewhere??*G*

Probably a better lunch hangout than dinner...

Is the decision Knowlwood then? Whichever, we'll be there, '67 Acapulco Blue vert, wife, and myself.

Maybe a posted and downloadable map, written directions, Knowlwoods telephone number (if it's them), and a privately available list of local VMF'ers telephone numbers would help.

Has anyone discussed this event with Knowlwood (or other likely location) in terms of people attending, special pricing, etc? How many people are we talking about? My wife and I are two and that has a 50% chance of two additional for four.

Russ

Edit addition: Oops, looks like it may be Don Jose's. Sorry. Same questions.

There are actually several locations for Knowlwoods. I know several that are closer than 30 minutes away. As far as better than In-N-Out......nope! No way! It is a much better place to hang out and shoot the preverbial pony poop though. Unless I missed a post, I thought we were still considering Don Jose's. In an effort to help take the pressure off Bob, I will cruise around that area tommorow, and then we can compare notes.

Hey,
I never argue with my wife about burger joints....*G*

She loves IO....can't go on a road trip without stopping at one...

Glad to see Knowlwood's grown...it's been a few years since she's cruised the burger joints in that area....she lived in Anaheim and Chino Hills...

I think we're still on track with Don Jose's....this was just an alternate place to consider....we might go there after the show to bulk up before hittin' the road home...
