I think you are thinking of residual valves. With a dual M/C you don't need a proportioning valve. There are two schools of thought regarding the residual valves. Some say run them and some say don't. The 2LB residual valve is a check valve which keeps pressure in your system, and that keeps the brake pad right up against the rotor, giving you a better pedal feel. But, since it keeps the pads rubbing on the rotor, it increases the heat and wears the pads out faster.

They aren't really necessary, but some like to run them. If you choose to run them, then you should have one for the front system and one for the rear, for a total of two. If you want to run just one, then run it on the rear system, because that is a longer tubing run.......
