I've just built a pair of kickpanels to house Pioneer 6.5" 3-way speakers. They have significantly more space behind the speakers than the ready-made aftermarket kickpanel/speaker combos; but still not as much as any decent home stereo speaker.

My question concerns the inside of my homemade speaker boxes. Is it best to leave a hard surface inside or to "carpet" them? My thinking is a carpeted/insulated interior would give me a deeper bass response. I just want to avoid a shallow sound; or there was no point to building deep kickpanels. Is my carpet idea completely off-base?

Thanks!

You do not need to carpet them inside. See how it sounds without anything. If it sounds muddy you can add some polyfill. (Pillow Stuffing /forums/images/icons/smile.gif )
