If this is a 289 out of a 64 Mustang, would it make it
a D code? If so, what are the specs on it?
TIA, Curtis

D or K. D was the 4V "low compression" and K is the K-coder hipo. In either case, it's a 4V carb.

It could also be a 260 2V if it is an early 65 engine.

IIRC, 9.3:1 CR and 210 hp, right between the later C code and A code engines (200 and 225 respectively). Stock carb is a 4100 Autolite.

It should also have a 5 bolt bellhousing attachment pattern instead of 6 bolts which later models have. The vehicle's VIN would have had a "D" in it for an engine code (if this engine is original to the vehicle)

Anything else? ˇ
