Took my 1966 289 out today to hardware store today, when I shut it off when I got home, the radiator was thumping like crazy. There has always been a boiling sound that it makes after I shut it off, but it has never made this thumping sound before. I’ve tried to burp the cooling system, but it pukes out antifreeze whenever the water pump kicks on. I think I have a bad air bubble in it, but I don’t know how to get rid of it. I have an overflow tank, which I thought would help, but it hasn’t. Any ideas?

Well depending on what youve tried.. run a hose in it maybe theres a clog somewhere.
also take off the hoses and manually inspect everything.
is your thermostat opening?

Yes the themostat appears to work. I have no temp issues. You can see the needle drop shortly before it reaches the H mark. The overflow tank does expell fluid when its heats up and sucks it back in as it cools.

imhdo the best place to burp is is with the heater hose outlet side. you can either disonnect it your use one of those round cap T fittings that come with the all the antifreeze refill kits
