·Since I seem to be a little post happy this evening ( can't seem to sleep lately ) I thought I would give an update on my brother potential Shelby trade. My brother is looking to trade his 70 Boss 302 for a 67 GT-500 that needs some re-assembly. The owner of the Shelby was under the impression that the car originally came with a 390. After a little investigation the owner was able to determine that the engine was indeed a 428 PI. My brother talked to the fellow at Cobra Automotive and they told him to pop one of the freeze pulgs ( not sure which one ) and behind said freeze plug should be a cast "428". Well , I own a 428 CJ and I had never heard that one before. But sure enough there was a "428" behind the freeze plug , go figure. I had told him to check the Top Loader that came with the car to see if it was a Big spline or a Small spline. It turned out to be a Big spline so things seem to make sense. My brother also received E-mail from a fellow named Copec ( I think it was Dick Copec ) that was well aquainted with Carrol Shelby. Well , Mr Copec said that ford did indeed run out of 428's and did put some 390's into GT-500's , but that was in 68. So the mystery seems to be solved.
