If you want to find out about what recalls may have been mandated for your car, a good source is the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

When there, hit the link for "recalls" and then enter the info for year, make, and model of the car in question. A list of recalls and technical service bulletins will result. (The technical service bulletins are items for which there is a great frequency of failure and thus the suggested cause and fix. Basically, a heads up for the dealers regarding likely warranty problems, but ones which the manufactures sucessfully escaped being forced to advise the public and fix.)

Whether or not the recall work has been accomplished, would rely upon the manufacturer's records (I know for my '89, Ford has the data. For a 70's car, I doubt it.) and your being able to visually ascertain.
Good luck.
