Any have a suggestion or two? I don't want to fork out the money for the hydraulic kind.. Looking for a set with good casters that will move the car around the shop.

Thanks,

I have a set that I picked up at harbor freight while doing my resto.
Vehicle Dollies - 2 Piece, 1500 Lb. Capacity

Was really handy moving the car around in the garage when it had no motor. THey work pretty darn well on a smooth surface. I could push it around solo pretty easily. When I wasnt working on it I could push it up to the wall then back out again when I was. Handy, and cheap enough.

You will want dollies that are about 1/4" steel, premium wheels and don't have the straps connecting the front and back (probably because they are stamped steel). Mine came from a shop I believe was in Tennessee. They fabricate auto rotisseries and related equipment. Accessible Systems, Inc

Bought Harbor Freight as well. Worked great--I positioned the wheels so I could move them even easier. Used them until I put in the hoist and then sold them for close to what I paid.

Be mindful when pushing the car around on the dollies of joints or lips/edges on the floor. Mine rolled around inside great! No problem rolling it outside, but when I went to push it back inside, the front ones hooked on the joint between the driveway and the garage floor and kicked up backwards as the car went forward-not cool- damaging my nos fenders.....big surprise...I got them when I got the rotisserie from auto twirler.

I've got a set with smaller steel wheels and the metal strap from front to back like mentioned above- got them at a swap meet for $100 iirc. They work fine on SMOOTH concrete- suck something fierce over cracks, grooves, dirty floors, small pieces of gravel or screws, etc. They also have a tendency to twist as I'm moving the car around and can squirt out if you're not careful. I've thought about larger rubber wheels, but never seem to get around to it.
Another warning- BE SURE TO PUSH ON A HARD PART OF THE CAR.. bumpers, corners, etc, and DO NOT PUSH ON FLAT SURFACES!!! Somebody pushed my GT350 back into the corner by pressing against the fender just above and back of the front wheel. Now I've got a nice smooth dent there. I'd probably kick his *** if it weren't my own!!!

so reporting back... I tried the cheap harbor freight furniture dolly idea... It works pretty good with a shell. I used them on a fully assembled car and it was a challenge to get them go where I wanted... I'd recommend for a shell though..

I've had the HF ones for years, they work well enough but would be perfect if I could find some better wheels with bearings.

Have the HF ones, but replaced the wheels with these:

The wheels are a little softer, so they roll better and they have better bearings so they swivel easier. Moving the car with the drivetrain in it is definitely doable.

These are a little more money than the HF ones but seem to work really well.

Sears.com

The more heavier duty they are, the easier the car will roll. The heavy duty ones also will have better bearings and wheels.
What is also nice is that the tire is held on the sides so it doesnt flat spot.

I use the furniture dollies for my truck cab to move around. But the actual car dollies from HF work for an entire car, if the floor is smooth.
