My 302 needs a rebuild. I was thinking about some upgrades while I'm at it like a cam, 4bbl, shift kit (C4)--the major emphasis being low and mid range torque. I don't want to buy after market heads and seems nothing can really be done to improve the factory ones. Would I be better off putting in a 351W? If I do, will the C4 attach to it or will I have to get a C6? What about motor mounts, waterpump line-up with the radiator, brackets and pulleys? Anyone know of a good manual that would help?

I'd post this to the general forum too...
It's tough building power without either cubes or breathing improvements.
A Long Rod 302 would help build power with the lousy heads by letting the piston dwell at TDC a little longer.
A 347 conversion of your block is very cost effective and nets you lots of cubes, hence torque.
In the 351 arena, a 351 Long Rod conversion would also allow you to keep the lousy heads and gain the most you can from the combo. Most of the front dress for the 302 works on the 351. So does the trannie, motor mounts, etc.

The EFI 302 uses the intake as part of a system that nets lots of torque, if you want to convert.
Bottom line is that any engine is an air pump and if you restrict the inlet or outlet you will be down on power.
See http://www.speedomotive.com/Stroker%20Kits.htm for long rod kits and other strokers.

It's all going to depend on your reality vs .dream ratio and how much $$$ you want to part with. Doing a modest re-build with a change in cam (RV cams give great torque), intake, carb, etc. is not a bad way to go if you have to do a rebuild anyway and plan to put miles on the car.

But if your looking for dramatic changes in performance, and using the car as a Weekend/Occasional driver, in my opinion Stoker kits are a good way to go, but hey I've got one /forums/images/icons/smile.gif
