I am putting new rocker arms on and it says the preload needs to be between .020 and .060. How can i tell if i'm in that range and if i'm not how do i change it???

Thanks for any help

John, use must be more specific or fill out your profile. We need to know what engine (and year), and what type of valve train (hydraulic, mechanical, rail type rockers, roller rockers, etc.). The procedures are very different for the various types.

Generic reply...
Tighten rocker arm until there is no slop but you can easily turn the pushrod by hand...then turn one addition rotation of the nut....
If the nut (or bolt) is 3/8" NF thread, that'll give you around .040" preload...

As Johnpro mentioned, technique does vary so post that info! *G*
