Could someone please tell me how they secured the wiring inside the door for the courtesy lights.

Does it just lay loose inside the door? This doesn't make sense as it could get tangled up when the windows roll up and down.

I would like to do this the way they did it in the day. As original as I can. Pictures would be great as well.

Thank you in advance.

I believe there is a clip that held the harness away from the window mechanism.
I think that CJ's has a video on youtube about that.

For 67/68 there were just two attachment points. One was midway on the bottom edge of the rectangular door shell opening that's on an angle, and the other horizontal to that one on the opening near the window crank. The wires run nearly straight down from the door entry plug towards the window crank area clip and then dip down rearwards (a little slack) and back up to the rectangular opening clip and then down again to the light housing.

65/66's had more attachment clips because the light housings were placed further rearward on those model year doors.
