Had my waterpump replaced this weekend. Car ran fine when
I picked it up. Got home & noticed the bypass hose had cratered.
This hose was replaced earlier this year. Anyhow, figured it was good
time to replace the thermostat. Pulled dist cap off to get vacuum
advance canister out of way. Left dist cap off out of the way. Pulled
upper hose of t-stat housing & got hose replaced. Put everything
back together, crank car to check for leaks, cars runs like crap.
Pulled dist cap & notice green substance, apparently some antifreeze
got into cap. Cleaned cap out & dist, reassembled and still runs
like ca-ca.
My questions are, could the a/f cause the cap to crap out? Tried old
wires just for grins, same thing. Any suggestions or opinions would
be appreciated. Need to fix this one fast as it belongs to SWMBO,
and as everybody knows, if she ain't happy I'm not happy. LOL : )

Try spaying wd-40 in the cap. Works for me when the dist. in the truck gets wet.

Not sure exactly what you did when you moved the vacuum advance out of the way, but maybe the timing is off now. Check the dwell and timing; dry the distributor, and you should be good again.

I am with 390Fastback. WD-40 will displace any moisture that got in the cap. You cannot wipe it dry enough with a rag.

Spray both the inside and outside of the cap.

This should be an easy fix.

WD40 is a quick fix. Are you sure the timing isn't off from when you moved the vacuum advance? Just my .02
